Cancer Research Society raises a record amount through its annual Classic
Cycling and golfing for cancer research: A winning combination!


Montreal, August 19, 2016 – Golfers and cyclists raised $210,000 at yesterday’s 23rd Annual Cyclo-Golf Classic to benefit the Cancer Research Society, presented by McKesson Canada and Scotiabank. This event was held at the Elm Ridge Country Club, Ile Bizard, Quebec.

"We need more research as it is critical if we are going to improve the ways we prevent, detect and treat the disease," explains Board member Mike Bouchard, who is cycling in honour of his mother who had breast cancer.

In this year’s Classic, the Cancer Research Society introduced a cycling component, which allowed it to gather a record 200 golfers and cyclists. Every dollar raised will go to finance innovative cancer research projects across Canada.

Research funded by the Cancer Research Society is making a difference. In 2016, the Cancer Research Society is supporting 174 research initiatives of which 79 are new projects, including four grants for its “Next Generation of Scientists” program, for a total investment of $15.2 million. This will allow our researchers to advance scientific knowledge, generate new discoveries that will help prevent cancer, raise survival rates and enhance quality of life.
